TV Guide reports that the actor will star in the current season's summer finale and could return in the future.
He will play Deputy Chief Tommy Delk, head of the LAPD's counter-terrorism unit. Delk will team up with Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) as part as a joint investigation between the LAPD and the FBI.
Vance has previously appeared in films such as The Hunt for Red October and Space Cowboys. He most recently starred in axed ABC sci-fi drama FlashForward.
His first appearance on The Closer will air tonight at 9/8c on TNT.
