American 'Gavin & Stacey' dropped?

ABC has reportedly dropped plans for an American remake of Gavin & Stacey.

The network ordered a pilot of the show last year but star Ruth Jones recently admitted that she was unsure about its future.

The Sun has now claimed that ABC has decided not to pursue the project, which would have been set in South Carolina and New Jersey.

"It's a massive shame as we had high hopes for the show," a source said. "We loved the idea of seeing how the characters would have worked across the pond."

BBC Worldwide is reportedly now trying to sell the format to a cable channel in the States.
