'Idol' host named new E! News anchor

Seacrest / American Idol

Ryan Seacrest has added another presenting gig to his already-crowded work schedule.

Beginning March, Seacrest will be the new lead anchor of E! News, hosting the news magazine every night from Monday to Saturday. He will also host and exec produce the channel's red carpet awards coverage, beginning with the Golden Globes on January 16, and several new specials via his Ryan Seacrest Productions production company.

The new work with E! is in addition to his job at the helm of American Idol - which airs as many as three times per week from January 17 - host of the nationally-syndicated weekly American Top 40 countdown show and host of an LA weekday breakfast show.

"I am looking forward to being part of the E! team," said Seacrest in a statement. "This unique opportunity allows my company to take the next step in providing multimedia content."

The three-year contract is thought to be worth $20 million (£11 million).
