The actor told Fancast that he enjoyed exploring the backstory of his character Cal Lightman in the new episodes.
"The horizons are broadening and the writing is very tight," he claimed. "It's the show we were aiming at and now we finally get to do. Hopefully the audience will get a kick out of it."
He explained that the new season would also explore how Lightman deals with the women in his life.
"We touched on it a bit in season two, how he is with women, and how Foster (Kelli Williams) reacts to other women being around him, so there's a lot to play there," he said. "We're going to sort of break open the relationship with Foster, look into the relationship he has with [his] daughter, and look at the relationships he has with other women."
Roth joked that the new female-led storylines were his own idea.
"I said [to the writers that] I want women jumping at me from left and right," he laughed.
Lie To Me continues on Monday at 9/8c on Fox.
