Entertainment Weekly reports that the actor will play the "frail and blind" Branston Cole in a forthcoming episode.
The character, described as "vigorous and sarcastic", will apparently share a romantic history with Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt).
A former secret agent, Cole "seems to still enjoy the game of espionage and manipulation" and will lead his handlers "down questionable paths".
Barry previously played the grandfather of Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) on Lost and recently featured in a recurring role on FX drama Justified.
NCIS: Los Angeles continues on Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
