Top of the Pops is being made over for the US market once again, according to reports.

Music mogul Lou Pearlman, manager behind the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, is apparently "close" to signing a deal with BBC Worldwide for the US rights to the iconic show.

Pearlman is aiming to launch the show in the second quarter of this year, in a primetime slot on a broadcast network. He is currently holding talks with FOX, currently enjoying huge success with American Idol, but is also intending to speak with The WB and ABC.

"The show will be just like it is all around the world," Pearlman told The AP. "Except our thing will be each week having an up-and-coming artist that will be debuted on the show."

Top of the Pops did air in the US once before - in 1987 with Fame star Nia Peeples as host - but was cancelled by CBS after just one season.
