Conan O'Brien has admitted that he felt shocked when he was dropped from The Tonight Show.

Earlier this year, O'Brien's series was moved by NBC to make way for Jay Leno's show. The changes meant that O'Brien decided to leave NBC.

"My wife says those first couple of months [afterwards], the thing I said most often was, 'Wait a minute, what just happened?'" O'Brien explained.

The comedian added that after filming his final edition of The Tonight Show he went away with his wife for a holiday.

"I felt like I'd just been in a car accident," he said. "Like a crazy mix of elation, anger, sorrow. Confusion was a big one."

O'Brien also revealed that when he entered the dining room at his hotel, the guests stood up and clapped.

"It almost made me cry," he admitted.

O'Brien's new show Conan will premiere on TBS on November 8.
