The 100th episode of hit show Buffy the Vampire Slayer airs next week on The WB - the final episode to be shown on the network before it moves to UPN.

As the series closes season four, the show reaches the landmark 100-episode stage, which many analysts believe guarantees the show a long life in syndication.

Two of the show's stars, Nicholas Brendon (Xander) and Amber Benson (Tara), related their feelings on the show's popularity.

Brendon has been with the show since day one, and reflected on how successful the series has been so far:

"I didn't really think we were going to make a hundred. It's a fun job. I guess we make it, and I guess the show is doing well."

He praised how well continuity was carried through the shows, saying:

"They refer to past episodes and nothing's ever forgotten. For such as fantastical show, it's very real."

Benson, who joined the series later, commented that "I just do my thing and I think it's going to be good."

When asked about upcoming storylines, the two cast members remained unsurprisingly tight-lipped. Brendon explained the policy of creater Joss Wheadon:

"Joss just asks two things - don't talk about what happens on the show and don't talk bad about your cast mates."

Benson added:

"I wish I could [talk about it], but my tongue would be taken out of my head. The 'Buffy' Mafia could come and kill me. I just know that fans are going to be dismayed, but they're ultimately going to enjoy it."

The 100th episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer airs Tuesday 22 May on The WB.
