The new programme focuses on two young lawyers, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer, who join a very traditional firm.
However, Entertainment Weekly reports that Chais has now explained that the show is "not an ambulance-chasing" programme.
"We're trying really hard to have cases where you root for people," he said. "These aren't sleazy cases. They are cases that mainstream lawyers wouldn't take because the obvious pot of gold isn't there."
However, Chais added that the comedy is very important to the show, saying: "We're big fans of the bromance genre, that subversive quality of the Judd Apatow films."
Franklin & Bash is expected to premiere on TNT in the summer.
