According to Zap2It, Anna Fricke explained that she and her colleague Jeremy Carver wanted to make sure they weren't influenced by the original series.
"We've actually only seen their first season and I'd say we follow their trajectory for a few episodes," she said. "We made a point of not watching season two when it aired on BBC America. We didn't want to be swayed by it. I don't think we ever will."
Fricke also suggested that fans of the original series will be able to enjoy the American remake.
"I would say if you're a fan of the original, you're going to see a show that starts much in the same way," she said. "We explore these moments and what the characters experienced in the British version and say to the writers, 'What if we do this differently?'"
Being Human premieres on January 17 at 9/8c on Syfy.
