The CW announced on Wednesday that it has picked up five new affiliates, taking America's new fifth terrestrial network to around 52% coverage across the country.
The network, which is scheduled to launch in the Autumn, will as of Wednesday have a presence in 25 of America's top 30 television markets.
The five stations announced on Wednesday are WJZY-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina (currently UPN and owned by the Capitol Broadcasting Company); WBNX-TV in Cleveland, Ohio (currently WB and owned by Winston Broadcasting); WKCF-TV in Orlando, Florida (currently WB and owned by Emmis Communications); WBKI-TV in Louisville, Kentucky (currently WB and owned by Cascade Broadcasting); WMWB-LP in South Bend, Indiana (currently WB and owned by Weigel Broadcasting). Together, they represent slightly under 4.33% of the US TV marketplace.
"We are thrilled to announce these five long-term affiliation agreements with these leading broadcasting companies," said John Maatta, COO of The CW. "They are the first independently-owned stations to join The CW, and they represent the first wave of new affiliations, with many more to come in the weeks ahead. These groups represent tremendous local station success stories, a blend of WB and UPN affiliates whose ratings and station value has increased tremendously due to their network affiliation over the past decade."
