TV Line reports that the actress will play Linda Gerraty, the estranged ex-wife of Detective Louis Fitch (Michael Imperioli).
Gerratay is intended to become a recurring character if the show is renewed for a second season.
Coppola previously played Mimi Clark on CBS series Jericho and has recently appeared on NCIS: Los Angeles and Lie To Me.
She will also feature in the February 14 episode of Castle and has filmed a role in new USA pilot Common Law opposite Michael Ealy.
Detroit 1-8-7 airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
