Joel McHale has joked that this is a "golden age" for television.

The Community star, who also hosts The Soup, quipped that shows are getting worse and better at the same time.

"Someone once told me that 90% of all art is crap, and 10% is tremendous," McHale told Emmy magazine.

"I think it's the same way with TV. And there's just more TV than there was, so the more crap we see, the more great stuff there is. It's getting worse and better at the same time."

He added: "Anyway, it must be a golden age. I'm on two shows!"

McHale also revealed that he is pleased with his role in Community, saying: "Acting was always my first love. That's what I trained as. I just ended up doing all these other things in between."

Community airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC.
