Published Monday, Feb 21 2011, 12:09 GMT | By Lara Martin
The storyline revolves around High School Musical drama teacher Ms. Darbus (Alyson Reed) relocating from East High to Madison High.
At the new school, Ms. Darbus will work with a group of students trying to build a "revolutionary theatre programme", which includes creating an original musical production based on the students' own lives.
The cast for the pilot includes 15-year-old Luke Benward as a motocross racer called Devin Daniels who is looking for a new hobby, and Leah Lewis, 14, who plays a previously home-schooled tennis star named Peyton Hall. G Hannelius, 12, will play a "precocious starlet in the making" called Wednesday Malone.
The pilot will also include four original songs, including one written by former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.
Production is scheduled to begin next month for a potential premiere early next year.
