In the FX boxing drama, Johnny lives under the shadow of his heavyweight champion brother Patrick 'Lights' Leary (Holt McCallany).
Schreiber, the half-brother of Hollywood star Liev Schreiber, told TV Guide: "I've always dealt with the repercussions, positive and negative [of that connection]. Sharing the same name, you get some recognition, but there are also expectations and comparisons that aren't always fair."
The actor also revealed that Johnny's career as his brother's manager will be threatened in this week's episode by a new trainer (Eamonn Walker).
"After Lights invites this guy into the camp, Johnny will do anything he can to get him out," he explained.
Lights Out airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
