In a deal that is the first of its kind, CBS has signed a distribution agreement with Verizon that enables the broadcaster to charge fees to the telecom provider for retransmitting local CBS stations over its fibre-optic TV service.
Until now, the broadcast networks have allowed cable operators to retransmit the signals of local terrestrial stations for free in return for carriage of their respective cable channels.
