The pilot, written by William Laurin and Glenn Davis, will follow two rival sisters as they struggle to survive in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
Deadline reports that Griffiths will play Jenna, the elder sister who works as an attorney in the New York City public defender's office.
The actress previously played Marian in the BBC's Robin Hood and has also appeared in episodes of Lewis and Sea of Souls.
Awakening will be produced by Warner Bros TV and production company Reveille.
