The River is the brainchild of Oren Peli, best known for the popular horror film Paranormal Activity, and tells the tale of a group of people who gather together to search for a television presenter who goes missing in the Amazon rainforest.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greenwood joins the likes of Eloise Mumford and Joe Anderson on the project, although little is known about the character that he will play.
The actor is best known for his role as Captain Christopher Pike in J.J. Abrams's 2009 Star Trek reboot, but has starred in a wide range of films including Thirteen Days and National Treasure: Book Of Secrets.
