The comedy focuses on Zack and Gillian, a young couple who feel "smothered" by their two very different sets of parents.
According to Deadline, Harden has now signed up to play the mother of Zack (Kyle Howard). The character is said to have a superior attitude.
Harden starred as Claire in Damages and has also appeared in several episodes of Law & Order: SVU as Dana. She had a guest role in Royal Pains and recently worked on the movie Whip It.
Smothered has been penned by former Friends producers Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen.
