The project will focus on a newly-divorced single mother (Amanda Peet) who finds herself attracted to her new contractor Pete (David Walton).
Deadline reports that Tambor will play Pete's father, an eccentric former actor with an eye for the ladies.
The actor previously played both George Bluth Sr and his twin brother Oscar in Fox sitcom Arrested Development and will appear in upcoming film comedy The Hangover Part II.
Child actress Joey King will also star in the Bent pilot as the daughter of Peet's character.
The project, from former Scrubs producer Tad Quill, is under consideration for NBC's 2011-12 television season.
