Iceland focuses on a young woman called Mackenzie, played by Kerry Bishé, whose fiancé has recently died.
Deadline reports that Gilford has now signed up to play Mackenzie's friend. The character has also been described as a "bad influence".
Gilford previously played Matt Saracen in Friday Night Lights. His role in Iceland is in second position to his current show Off The Map, but the future of the latter series is in doubt following mediocre ratings.
Gilford is the third Off The Map star to sign up for a pilot this season after Rachel Lefevre and Martin Henderson joined NBC's project Reconstruction.
