In a post on his official site, Sutter claimed that the FX drama's writing team are "firing on all cylinders".
"I'm very excited about season four," he wrote. "We're coming up with some very cool, very crazy [stuff]."
He added that the new run will "reboot" certain elements of the series, which was officially renewed last October.
"It's creatively liberating to be able to... play with new dynamics and new relationships within our club," he explained. "A lot can happen in 14 months, especially in prison. Loyalties, trust and friendships can take odd turns when you are living in a cage."
The fourth season of Sons of Anarchy is expected to premiere on FX in late 2011.
