The newsman had been in Fukushima to report live on the impending fallout from last week's earthquake, but was forced to evacuate the town during his live Anderson Cooper 360 telecast after a series of explosions at a nearby nuclear plant.
Cooper took to his official Twitter account to officially announce that the network was cancelling the second hour of the his nightly newscast so he and his crew could travel away from possible danger.
Several hours after his live show ended, Cooper posted a second message praising the bravery of those tasked with trying to avert a possible disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
He wrote: "Thinking about the people still working at the fukushima daiichi nuclear plant. What bravery (sic)."
It is not yet known where Cooper will broadcast his programme from this evening.
Anderson Cooper 360 airs weeknights on CNN.
