VH1 announces 'My VH1 Primetime' launch

VH1 will launch "My VH1 Primetime," a new programming strategy that will spotlight themed destination viewing nights in a new 9:00 p.m.-midnight primetime schedule beginning June 18, it was announced today by Fred Graver, Executive Vice President, Programming & Production, VH1.
"Our audience has told us what they love most about the channel, and we've built 'My VH1 Primetime' to make it very easy for them to find it," said Graver.
"Since our core viewers are adults 25-34 who watch us late in the day, 'My VH1 Primetime' accommodates their schedule by beginning later in the evening and featuring programmes with a distinct voice and look that reflects our viewers' interests, opinions and preferences, both on VH1 and VH1.com."
In addition to launching a slate of all-new VH1 original programmes, "My VH1 Primetime" comprises four distinct themed destination viewing nights, including "My Mondays," VH1's first-ever regularly-scheduled full evening of viewer-driven, interactive programming.
"VH1's new 'My Mondays' - inspired by the sweeping success of the first 'My VH1 Music Awards' show last fall - defines convergence, creating a seamless interactive experience for our viewers by literally handing over the channel to them every Monday night via the Internet," added Graver.
"This is a new environment for the viewer, and we've married it to new scheduling, new programming, and a new visual look for the network as well."
VH1 will also invite viewers to cruise through primetime with its month-long interactive "My VH1 Free Ride" promotion in July. "My VH1 Free Ride" will kick off the summer by fulfilling music fans' ultimate fantasy - a fast car and music to drive by.
For 31 days, VH1 will offer viewers the opportunity to win 31 new BMW Z3 Roadsters, plus VH1's collection of the 100 Greatest Albums of all time. To win the Roadster and the albums, viewers will receive a clue each night during "My VH1 Prime Time," which they can then use to register at VH1.com and respond online to the question of the day.
Each day at noon, a winner will be selected from those who have correctly responded to the previous day's question.
The weekly "My VH1 Primetime" themed programming nights include:
"My Mondays," an evening of viewer-driven, interactive programming that features the new countdown series "What's My 20?," in which all-time "greatest" music videos in a variety of categories are selected by VH1 viewers who will vote online (premiering June 18), preceded by an episode of the hit series "Behind the Music" chosen by viewers at VH1.com.
VH1's successful "Movies That Rock" franchise will continue on Wednesday nights with feature film favourites like "Airheads" and "Valley Girl," plus all-new VH1 Original Movies made exclusively for VH1 viewers. Upcoming VH1 Original Movies include "Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story," the true story of one of the hottest pop-metal bands of the '80s, and the dance-filled romantic drama "When the Music Stops," starring Annabeth Gish and Kamar de los Reyes.
"Front Row Fridays" will present performance series such as the hit series "VH1 Storytellers," premiering new episodes starting in June, plus other special superstar concert and event programming like VH1's "Opening Night Live." Also during "Front Row Fridays," VH1 will keep fans up-to-date with the latest music news, tour information, new CD releases, and more.
"Cover Wars," a unique battle-of-the-cover-bands tournament hosted by Paul Shaffer, debuts on Saturday, June 23 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) with two back-to-back episodes, kicking off "My VH1 Primetime" Weekend Premieres. Anchored by new VH1 specials and series that will debut this summer, "My VH1 Primetime" Weekend Premieres also includes "VH1 Undercover," a fast-paced half-hour weekly comedy spin-off from the hit series "VH1 Rock of Ages"; VH1's first-ever, fully-scripted original dramatic series "Strange Frequency," inspired by TV's classic horror anthologies, and episodes of the all-new "Before They Were Rock Stars," on Saturdays. And all-new episodes of "Behind the Music," VH1's highest rated series, will continue to premiere on its regular Sunday night with upcoming shows spotlighting Neil Diamond, Notorious B.I.G., Green Day and Judas Priest, among others. Sunday night now also features the debut episodes of VH1's critically acclaimed `reality series "Bands on the Run."
