BBC America has acquired the rights to air the British version of Life On Mars, just a day after a deal was announced to make a US version for ABC.

The crime drama stars John Simm as Sam Tyler, an ambitious young detective who wakes up dazed, confused and in 1973 following a near-fatal car crash.

The first 8x60' series will air on the channel "later this year".
