The singer, who had fallen into the bottom three alongside Thia Megia and Stefano Langone, was saved tonight after it was revealed by host Ryan Seacrest that he had received the lowest number of votes following last night's performance.
Abrams chose to sing Ray Charles's 'I Don't Need No Doctor' but was stopped shortly into the performance by Randy, who said that the audience already knows who he is as an artist and called it "crazy" that he was in danger of leaving.
"We've made a decision together here," Steven Tyler said. "We're going to keep you."
"We were wondering what was going on and why you were in the bottom and we don't know," J.Lo added. "You've had a rough couple of weeks and a lot of stuff going on but we want you to get back to the artist you are. You deserve to be here!"
Seacrest announced following the decision that all of the Top 11 will join the summer tour and that - because of the save - two contestants will be leaving the show next week.
The singers who are still in the running are Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, Paul McDonald, Pia Toscano, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Haley Reinhart, Thia Megia, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo and Scotty McCreery.
Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance, taking to the stage with the Top 11 for a rendition of 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)' as well as a special version of 'Happy Birthday' for Steven Tyler, who turns 63 on Saturday. Hulk Hogan later joined Ryan Seacrest to announce part of the night's results.
Tonight's episode also featured performances from Sugarland with their single 'Stuck Like Glue' and former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson with her new track 'Where You At'.
American Idol continues next Wednesday on Fox.
