Deadline claims that 24 director Stephen Hopkins is on board to helm the project.
Based on the comic by John Layman and Rob Guillory, Chew is a half-hour cop series which follows Tony Chu, a federal agent who experiences psychic impressions from the things he eats.
"There are a lot of superhero comic books, but there are not many food comic books," joked Layman.
The television adaptation has been written by Supernatural writers Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer.
Hopkins, Burton, Milbauer and Hopkins will all executive produce alongside David Engel and production company Circle of Confusion.
Circle of Confusion is currently also working on a number of other comic adaptations, including the second season of The Walking Dead and FX's Powers pilot.
