Dana Delany has claimed that her new show Body of Proof will not focus on romance.

The actress dismissed suggestions that her character Dr Megan Hunt might find love with medical investigator Peter Dunlop (Nicholas Bishop).

"People have asked whether [they] will get together," she admitted to TV Guide. "At first, I was like, 'Why? Why can't they just be friends?' My best friend is a guy, so I don't understand [viewers] always wanting to hook people up, but I know people like that tension."

She added that Hunt will eventually get a love interest towards the end of the medical drama's 13-episode run.

"We do have a very dashing FBI agent coming on for the end of the season, played by Cliff Curtis," she revealed. "[Cliff is] an old friend, so I wanted him for the role."

Delany also revealed that she is keen to reunite with her former Desperate Housewives co-star Nathan Fillion, with whom she has also appeared in ABC's Castle and short-lived Fox drama Pasadena.

"I would love it," she said. "I suggested... on Twitter that Mr Castle (Fillion) should come to our coroner's office to investigate something. Maybe he's writing a book about a medical investigator. I think that would be really fun!"

Body of Proof premieres tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
