Mobbed aired on Thursday night following American Idol, and received 10.8 million viewers, leading Fox to consider expanding the format to a full series.
It has been confirmed that the network has ordered a further eight hour-long episodes of the show.
"Mobbed exceeded our expectations in every way last night," Fox president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell said of the episode. "The show clearly connected with viewers."
"Doing this project was a huge undertaking - it was like doing television without a net," Mandel said of the show. "And I can't tell you how thrilled I am that Fox is giving us an opportunity to keep pushing the envelope."
"Best day ever!" Mandel tweeted, after news of the pickup went public. "Fox ordered more episodes of Mobbed! I got some work to do."
Mobbed follows people as they make certain important announcements to their friends, co-workers or loved ones in the form of a public flashmob, orchestrated by the America's Got Talent judge himself.
