The programme, which is based on Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington's record-breaking podcasts, is a co-production between the UK and US broadcasters.
Gervais announced the news of the show's recommission on his blog and Channel 4 confirmed the news today.
"The Ricky Gervais Show is a proper treat in our schedule. The killer funny cross-examination of Karl's deranged logic and life philosophies are a perfect fit with the comedy savvy audience of Channel 4," said Channel 4 head of comedy Shane Allen.
"It's also got the sweetest profile with a vast share of the 16-34 demographic. It should keep getting recommissioned until Karl is 'cured'."
Gervais added: "I am absolutely thrilled. The third season should use up the rest of the best stuff from the audiobooks and podcasts, and we are planning to record brand new material for season four."
The second series is currently airing in the UK on E4 and Channel 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Gervais yesterday professed that most celebrities were not offended by the jokes he told as host of this year's Golden Globe Awards.
