In January, it was announced that De La Garza would reprise her role as Assistant District Attorney Connie Rubirosa as part of a midseason revamp of the spinoff, which also saw the likes of Skeet Ulrich, Regina Hall and Megan Boone written out of the series.
"I was in negotiations for a pilot when the head writer sent me a quick email to say, 'Don't do anything rash, we're trying to resurrect Connie'," De La Garza explained to TV Line. "And the offer came in the next day."
The actress admitted that she was sad when she learned that Law & Order would not be returning for a new season last year, and jumped at the opportunity to play Rubirosa again.
"We were all taken aback by it," she said regarding the abrupt ending of Law & Order. "So maybe this will give [the fans] a sense that Law & Order is still going on, it's just not on the air."
Law & Order: LA returns with a double airing on Monday.
