Speaking to PopEater, the comedian praised the sitcom for its approach to displaying the everyday family dynamic, as he believes it set a good example for shows that have come since.
"The Cosby Show reminded us we are all one family," he explained. "It lifted us up and up to higher ground. The Cosby Show made an impact on comedy, television and culture. We rejected lowering the bar."
A friend of the star also told the website that Cosby is not a fan of current television as he feels it lacks the heart and soul of older shows.
"Bill hates what he sees when he looks around and sees what people are given to watching these days," the source said.
"All I know is Bill wanted TV to educate as well as entertain. Now all anyone cares about is getting ratings even if they humiliate the cast in the process."
The cast of The Cosby Show reunited last year for their 25th anniversary on The Today Show.
