ABC has ordered five new comedy series for the 2011-2012 schedule.

The Alphabet network picked up a new show from Home Improvement star Tim Allen called Last Man Standing.

The series focuses on Allen's character Tim, a traditional man struggling to come to terms with the modern world.

In a similar vein, ABC also picked up Man Up, which focuses on a group of friends trying to work out what it means to be a man in the modern world. Mather Zickel, Chris Moynihan and Dan Fogler have all signed up to appear in the comedy.

Other shows ordered by the network include Work It, which stars Amaury Nolasco and Ben Koldyke as two unemployed car salesmen who dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps. Meanwhile, Suburgatory focuses on a teenage girl called Tessa, played by Jane Levy, who is devastated when she is forced to move from Manhattan to the suburbs.

ABC also gave a series order to Apartment 23, which stars Dreama Walker as a well-behaved young woman from the heartland who moves into an apartment with New York party girl Chloe (Krysten Ritter). James Van Der Beek, who will also appear in the comedy, has previously said the show had the "funniest script" he had read all season.

ABC has also ordered seven new drama series - Good Christian Belles, Pan Am, Once Upon A Time, Revenge, The River, Scandal and Charlie's Angels.
