Fox's entertainment president Kevin Reilly has explained why the network decided to pass on the Locke & Key pilot.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Fox had decided not to order the project to series.

Speaking on a press call after the release of Fox's 2011-2012 schedule, the network's entertainment chairman Peter Rice explained that the Locke & Key decision was made for practical reasons.

"We made a number of pilots and then we look at them and make choices based on our schedule," he said. "A lot of the time [the decisions] are not made in the abstract about a specific show and its qualities."

Meanwhile, Reilly admitted that he liked the Locke & Key pilot.

"It's actually a cool pilot with good talent involved," he said. "They were tough decisions. I wish it was an easier decision to make. But it really just came down to, we like the shows we picked and they fit better... that's really what it is."
