The actor plays cop-turned-medical investigator Peter Dunlop in the ABC drama, which was recently picked up for a second season.
'I want the audience to find out why he became a medical investigator,' Bishop told Zap2it. "He was a cop for a long time and a good cop, so what made him want to become a medical investigator? So, it would be nice for the audience to see what that transition is all about."
He confirmed that viewers will "learn more about [Dunlop's] back-story" in the new season, which will air in the fall.
"One of the things that always came up with me in the beginning is why Peter [is] the guy who can look at Megan (Dana Delany) and... get her to open up about her life, because essentially she is his boss," he said.
"We do find out in [one] episode that he has three sisters, so he kind of has a good understanding of women on that level. So, yeah, given time we'll find out a lot more of what drives him as well."
Dana Delany previously ruled out the possibility of a romance between her character Dr Megan Hunt and Dunlop.
Body of Proof will return to Tuesdays at 10/9c in the fall.
