'Community' Abed appears in 'Cougar Town': Video

Community and Cougar Town's latest seasons came to a close this month, but fans who watch both shows may have noticed a meta moment in the Cougar Town finale.

In a Community episode that aired in March, Abed (Danny Pudi) told Jeff (Joel McHale) that he visited the set of Cougar Town and appeared as an extra in a scene with Courteney Cox.

Abed's cameo happened on Wednesday's episode of Cougar Town, as he featured in the background drinking coffee before rushing off at the end - a possible nod to when Abed admitted in Community that he "pooped [his] pants" on the set. However, due to scheduling conflicts, it was during a scene with Busy Philipps and Dan Byrd instead of Courteney Cox.



Cougar Town showrunner Bill Lawrence told TV Line: "They had Abed have a love of Cougar Town [and] we had Travis have a love of Community.

"Once we got wind of what they were having Abed say he experienced out here, we were going to try to find a way of Danny [Pudi] being a background character and essentially act that same thing out on our show."

Philipps and Byrd also had a brief two-second cameo in Community's paintball finale a couple of weeks ago.



Both Community and Cougar Town were renewed for next season by NBC and ABC respectively.
