He revealed that HBO asked him to shoot a scene from the fourth season of the supernatural series in 3D, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"We did a scene in 3D this season just to take a look at it," Ball said. "HBO asked us to do one. It was pretty cool. I don't think it's going to air."
The American Beauty writer went on to state that the scene was shot as part of a test of the technology.
"We just did it as an experiment, because I don't know if they're going to want to take the show 3D at some point, maybe like a season premiere or a season finale or something," Ball explained. "I would be surprised if - depending on how long the show lasts - that doesn't happen at some point, especially if 3D technology gets beyond having to wear the glasses."
HBO recently released the first three minutes of the first episode of the fourth season of True Blood.
Show star Alexander Skarsgård said in an interview that he needs distance from the series, claiming that he finds it discouraging to be offered so many roles that are similar to vampire Eric Northman, his character on True Blood.
True Blood premieres June 26 at 9pm on HBO.
