Recent reports suggested that Lucas was waiting on sufficient computer technology to finish the pre-filmed instalments.
However, a source at Lucasfilm has now told Entertainment Weekly that while 50 scripts have been completed for the series, no footage has yet been shot.
They confirmed: "[George is] waiting for a different type of technology we can use so it's economically feasible to shoot the shows."
Previous Star Wars projects made for television include a holiday special broadcast in 1978 and two animated series produced by Cartoon Network.
George Lucas announced last year that a new live-action series based on the franchise had been delayed.
"The live action TV show is kind of on hold because we have scripts, but we don't know how to do them," he said.
"They literally are Star Wars, only we're going to have to try to do them [at] a tenth the cost. And it's a huge challenge, [a] lot bigger than what we thought it was gonna be."
The original Star Wars film saga will be released as a nine-disc Blu-ray collection in widescreen with 6.1 DTS Surround Sound on September 12 internationally and September 16 in North America.
