The White Collar creator spoke to TV Line about the pair's relationship, stating that though Peter (Tim DeKay) and Neal's (Matt Bomer) friendship will undergo "some pretty good twists and turns", they will recover.
Eastin said: "We constantly have in mind that people like the show because of the relationship between Peter and Neal. So we work very hard to try to keep that, and not turn it into something so antagonistic that it's not fun to watch."
He went on to discuss Neal's romance with Sara (Hilarie Burton), claiming that the reformed con artist does not know how to handle it.
Eastin continued: "It's a new relationship, I don't know if he's really contemplated what it means to him yet."
Robert John Burke, Mädchen Amick and Dana Ashbrook recently signed on to star in the third season of the USA series.
White Collar may crossover with Covert Affairs in the near future. Actors on both series expressed interest in a joint episode.
White Collar airs on Tuesdays at 9pm on the USA network.
