The musician, who performed at the Los Angeles ceremony on Sunday night, won 'Best Male R&B Artist', the 'Fandemonium' award and 'Best Collaboration' and 'Video Of The Year' for 'Look at Me Now', which features Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.
Brown, who was nominated for six awards, thanked his fans, saying: "I know it's been a long road. I just appreciate every blessing that's been put in front of me."
The 21-year-old was also announced as the recipient of the 'Viewers Choice' award.
However, a problem with the ceremony's digital 'winners' envelopes' meant that the prize was at first erroneously awarded to Brown's former girlfriend Rihanna by a fan who had been invited to make the presentation.
Other major winners included Nicki Minaj, who is currently on tour with Britney Spears.
The 'Super Bass' musician won the award for 'Best Female Hip-Hop Artist' and praised Lil Wayne in her speech.
Kanye West won 'Best Male Hip-Hop Artist', Wiz Khalifa triumphed in the 'Best New Artist' category and Thor star Idris Elba was recognised with the accolade for 'Best Actor'.
Patti LaBelle was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
