Garlin plays David's fictional agent Jeff Greene on Curb Your Enthusiasm and also serves as a producer for the improvisational sitcom.
The actor disclosed that he developed near-instant "chemistry" with David while they were working on the original Curb Your Enthusiasm one-off special in 1999.
"When we first started putting the show together, we discovered that we had this great chemistry. You can't even try to make that; it just happens," Metromix Chicago quotes him as saying.
Garlin went on to discuss his involvement in Curb Your Enthusiasm's filming schedule, explaining that as a producer he is more often concerned with ensuring David's satisfaction than with his own acting performance.
"I approach the show in sort of a selfless kind of way. My job - through either acting or as a producer - is to help Larry David get his vision on-screen. So I'm not thinking about me, although I do enjoy when I get something funny to do," Garlin remarked.
His co-star Susie Essman recently joked that David vows to end Curb Your Enthusiasm for good at the conclusion of each season.
Curb Your Enthusiasm continues with new episode 'The Safe House' on Sunday on HBO.
