Martha Plimpton has revealed that she was "thrilled" to receive an Emmy nomination.

Plimpton picked up the nod yesterday for her role as Virginia in the Fox comedy Raising Hope.

However, the actress explained that she was not expecting to be celebrated by the Academy.

"To get that kind of recognition in your first season is a little bit out of the ordinary so I was just getting psyched and ready to start up our second season," Plimpton told TV Guide.

"I wasn't making any mental preparations for anything like this, although I have to say I am really blown away and really thrilled and really, really happy that the show is getting recognised in this way. It feels really good."

Plimpton also revealed that she is excited about working on the second season of Raising Hope.

"[Creator Greg Garcia] sent some of the outlines for some of the upcoming episodes we're going to do and they're hilarious," she said. "I know Amy Sedaris is coming back, and I know Cloris [Leachman] is going to be doing a lot more this season because she's a series regular now, which is fantastic."

Raising Hope will return for a new season on September 20 on Fox.
