Damages star Rose Byrne has described her changed role on the show as "daunting".

In the legal drama's fourth season, Byrne's character Ellen is trying a new case alone, while Patty (Glenn Close) focuses more on her personal life.

Byrne explained: "It's usually Patty heading up the case. But I think you have to re-invent the show somehow and make it fresh and interesting, and that was the new dynamic that the [producers Todd Kessler, Daniel Zelman & Glenn Kessler] wanted to try."

However, the actress confirmed that Patty will eventually assist Ellen in her case against a military contractor.

"The two of them do wind up working together on the case, but I knew that would happen eventually," she said. "[It's] good because my favourite part on the show is working with Glenn. I adore it."

Byrne also revealed that she will share screen-time with new Damages star John Goodman later in the current season.

"[Those scenes are] still to come," she said. "I was lucky enough to get to work with John later in the season. So yes, they will be happening."

Damages continues on Wednesdays at 10/9c on DirecTV.
