It was previously announced that the network was close to renewing the show for a final sixth season, comprised of just six episodes, but these plans have now been abandoned.
In a statement, Syfy said: "After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka.
"We are very grateful to [executive producers] Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of."
The second half of Eureka's fourth season currently airs on Mondays at 8/7c, while a fifth run, including a special festive episode, is currently filming and will be broadcast in 2012.
"The 2012 episodes are some of the best we've seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end," continued the Syfy statement. "We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy [the] final season."
