The movie's protagonist Michael 'Mickey' Haller has appeared in five novels by Michael Connelly, who is co-writing a pilot script with Lincoln Lawyer screenwriter John Romano, according to Variety.
Matthew McConaughey played Haller in the recent film, but is not expected to reprise his role in the television adaptation.
The movie was a critical and financial success when it opened in March, bringing in $58 million (£35.7m) domestically and an additional $17m (£10.5m) overseas. Connelly praised McConaughey's lead performance, claiming that the actor "nailed" his role.
Connelly and Romano will executive produce the television version of The Lincoln Lawyer alongside Joel Gotler and Lakeshore's Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg.
NBC is also producing a new legal drama based on a successful film, with Josh Lucas and Juliette Lewis signed up to star in a TV follow-up to The Firm.
