It was previously announced that the network was close to renewing the show for a final sixth season, comprised of just six episodes, but the plans were later abandoned.
However, one additional episode has now been added to the show's fifth season to wrap up storylines, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The bonus instalment will take the total episode order for Eureka's final season to 14.
Series star Erica Cerra (Jo Lupo) said of the decision: "Hopefully the final episode will do the show justice. I figured we were getting a sixth season for sure, 13 [episodes] if not more. Then we learned we were only getting six and were disappointed [because] the numbers were going up and the show was getting better."
She added: "The final blow [of no sixth season] was just sad. There's no other word to use. It was a sad moment. We weren't prepared to say goodbye."
The second half of Eureka's fourth season airs on Mondays at 8/7c, while the fifth run, including a special festive episode, is currently filming and will be broadcast in 2012.
