Greg Grunberg has signed up to appear in the second season of Hawaii Five-0.

The Heroes star will play an immigration and customs agent based in Honolulu, TV Line reports.

Hawaii Five-0's executive producer Peter M Lenkov explained that Grunberg's character has previously worked with Lori Weston, played by new cast member Lauren German.

"He is aware of the task force and their successful and unorthodox ways of handling cases," Lenkov said. "His first exposure to working directly with Five-0 is when the team handles the murder investigation of an ICE agent under command."

Lenkov also teased that Grunberg will have some scenes with his former Heroes co-star Masi Oka, who plays Max in Hawaii Five-0.

"We plan to infuse the character with Greg's unique personality and humour as well as put him in a scene with Masi for those die-hard Heroes fans," he said.

As well as starring in Heroes, Grunberg's credits include a role in NBC's short-lived show Love Bites as well as appearances in series like Alias and Felicity.

Other stars who have recently signed up to appear in the new season of Hawaii Five-0 include Meredith Monroe, Patty Duke, William Baldwin, Terry O'Quinn and Autumn Reeser.

Lenkov has already revealed that he is planning a Halloween special for the show, while reports have suggested that a Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: LA crossover is in the works.

Hawaii Five-0 will return on September 19 on CBS.
