The series stars Watchmen actor Patrick Wilson as Michael Holt, a surgeon whose life is changed when his late wife Anna (Jennifer Ehle) begins contacting him from the afterlife.
Esparza will appear on a recurring basis as Anna's former boyfriend, according to Deadline.
The actor has previously featured in episodes of Medium, Pushing Daisies and Law & Order.
He also played a role alongside James Wolk and Boris Kodjoe in Josh Schwartz's rejected ABC pilot Georgetown.
Mad Men actress Cara Buono, Law & Order: SVU's Mike Doyle, Off The Map star Rachelle Lefevre and Stomp The Yard's Allan Louis are among the other stars confirmed to appear in A Gifted Man.
The series premieres on Friday, September 23 at 8/7c on CBS.
