The ABC series, which took home a number of accolades throughout the evening, closed the annual TV awards show with a victory in the category.

"We are so honoured to be in this room, to tell you the truth," the series' co-creator Steve Levitan said. "We appreciate every single second of this."
He went on to thank the series' youngest cast members, adding: "Modern Family was close to being animated, that's how much we didn't want to work with kids."
Finally, Levitan spoke about the influence the comedy has had on people's lives, recounting a time when he was approached by a gay couple that praised the show's tolerance.
