Dean Cain has claimed that modern superhero films are influenced by his former show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman.

The 45-year-old actor played Clark Kent / Superman in the ABC series from 1993 to 1997.

"Lois & Clark was designed primarily to be fun," he told Entertainment Weekly. "But I feel like whenever I see a big-budget epic like Green Lantern or Spider-Man, they all seem like episodes of Lois & Clark."

Cain added that the latest batch of comic book movies are "based on relationship dynamics" that Lois & Clark "tapped into all the time".

"I'm like, I did moments like this literally a hundred times, and now this movie is making $300 million?" said the actor. "I guess it's all about the special effects [with these films]."

Teri Hatcher starred with Dean Cain in the '90s TV show 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman'.

Following the conclusion of Lois & Clark, Cain and his former co-star Teri Hatcher both played guest roles on The CW's Smallville.

A new Superman film, starring Henry Cavill in the title role, is due for release in December 2012.
